Merino Wool Socks

Our premium merino wool socks for women, men, and kids are loved by those who want warmth without the itch, odour, or sweat buildup of synthetic socks. Our merino wool blend softens with every wear, regulates temperature in both cold and warm weather, and resists odour naturally without antimicrobial chemicals. Every pair uses mulesing-free merino, with lightweight and midweight options for winter, hiking, sport, and everyday wear. GOTS certified styles are available.

    Why Choose Merino Wool Socks?

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is the strictest organic certification for textiles, covering the entire supply chain, not just the cotton fibre. Here's what that means for the bras you wear every day:

    • No synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. Better for farmers, soil, and your skin.
    • No harsh chemicals. No chlorine bleach, formaldehyde, or azo dyes used in dyeing or finishing.
    • Hypoallergenic and breathable. Soft on sensitive skin, with airflow that synthetics can't match.
    • Ethically made. Fair labour standards enforced from farm to finished garment.

    Why Choose Q for Quinn?

“At Q for Quinn, we make merino wool socks the same way we make everything else: with the highest natural fibre content we can source, listed openly on every product page, and sewn in small family-run facilities we work with directly.

Q for Quinn began when my son had eczema, and most socks made it worse. Synthetic socks trapped sweat against his skin. Regular wool socks itched. We built this brand around the socks I wanted him to be able to wear: soft, breathable, and gentle even on the most sensitive skin types.

Merino wool gives you warmth where cotton cannot, regulates sweat better than any synthetic, and does not need chemical finishes to stay fresh. Our merino is mulesing-free, meaning no cruel farming shortcuts. Our GOTS certified styles go further, covering the entire supply chain from farm to finished sock.”

    Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful information before choosing the right bra.

Are merino wool socks worth the price?

Yes. A good pair of merino wool socks can last 2 to 3 times longer than synthetic socks and hold up through hundreds of wears as long as they’re taken care of properly. Cost per wear usually works out cheaper than inexpensive synthetic socks, which lose shape and develop holes quickly. If you buy fewer, better pairs and rotate them, merino is one of the best cost-per-wear investments in your sock drawer.

Can you wash merino wool socks in the washing machine?

Yes. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Avoid bleach, fabric softener, and hot water. Lay flat to dry or tumble dry on low. Avoid high heat, which can felt and shrink the wool. Our socks are designed to hold up through regular washing when cared for this way.

    Do merino wool socks shrink?

Only if washed in hot water or dried on high heat. Cold water and low-heat drying prevent shrinkage. If a sock does shrink, you can sometimes restore shape by soaking in cool water with a wool conditioner, then gently reshaping while damp and laying flat to dry.

Are these socks suitable for hiking, skiing, or running?

Our Lightweight Merino Winter Sport Socks are built for low-to-medium impact athletic wear including hiking, cycling, running, walking, and shoulder-season sport. For ski boots or heavy mountaineering, pair our midweight socks under insulated boots.

Can babies and toddlers wear merino wool socks?

Yes, and merino is one of the most skin-friendly options for babies and toddlers. It’s naturally hypoallergenic, breathable, and gentle enough for sensitive skin or eczema. Our kids collection includes grip-sole options for safe play on hard floors, and the GOTS certified styles are the cleanest option for little ones who spend all day in socks.

    Do merino wool socks pill?

Some pilling is normal with any wool sock during the first few wears as loose fibres work their way out. This slows down and stops once the socks are fully broken in. A fabric shaver removes any surface pills easily. Our midweight styles are knit densely to minimise pilling.

Are your merino wool socks seamless?

Our merino socks have a flat toe seam designed to minimise irritation, but they are not fully seamless. For fully seamless socks (built specifically for sensory-sensitive kids and adults with eczema), see our organic cotton seamless sock range.

What’s the difference between merino wool and regular wool?

Merino wool comes from a specific sheep breed with much finer fibres than regular wool, typically under 19 microns in diameter versus 30+ microns for standard wool. Finer fibres mean a softer feel, no itch, better moisture handling, and faster drying. Regular wool can feel scratchy and heavy. Merino wool feels more like performance fabric while keeping all the natural benefits of wool.

Are merino wool socks good for people with wool allergies?

True wool allergies are extremely rare. Most “wool allergy” reactions are actually itch sensitivity triggered by coarse fibres. Because merino wool fibres are so fine, they usually do not trigger that reaction. If you have had issues with cheap wool before, merino is often tolerated well. If you have a confirmed wool allergy diagnosed by a doctor, avoid merino and choose our organic cotton socks instead.

Can I wear merino wool socks to bed?

Yes, and many customers do. Merino regulates temperature overnight, keeping feet warm without overheating. Our midweight socks are a popular choice for sleeping in winter or for anyone with cold feet at night. Choose a looser fit for sleep so circulation isn’t restricted.
