At Q for Quinn, we do more than make quality, organic basics. Since 2018, we’ve been building a better future for our children, one small change at a time.

Melita Cyril

Our Story

Hi, I’m Melita. I started Q for Quinn when I couldn’t find socks gentle enough for my son with eczema. This is when I learnt our clothing contained harsh chemicals like BPA and PFAS.

I set out to make safer, softer basics using GOTS-certified organic cotton and responsibly sourced merino wool, crafted in certified facilities in Portugal and India.

Now a mom of three, I lead a small team creating healthy, comfortable essentials for the whole family.

We believe that what we wear should be clean, comfortable, and responsibly made. It should support the health of the person wearing it, the makers who create it, and the planet we all share.

Our Supply Chain

Every Q for Quinn product is made in safe, fair workplaces where workers earn living wages and are treated with dignity - never using child or forced labor.

We verify these practices throughout our entire supply chain, from the farms that grow our cotton to the makers who craft and ship your garments. Every product we make is traceable across the supply chain to ensure its integrity.

Made in Portugal

Our socks are knitted in Guimarães in Portugal at a family owned facility.

The cotton for our socks comes from GOTS-certified farms in Egypt and Turkey. It’s milled in a GOTS-certified facility in Portugal and purchased as yarn at our partner facility in Guimarães.

Made in India

Our undergarments are knit and sewn in Tirupur, India, a region known for its expertise in soft, high-quality jersey cotton.

The organic cotton we use is grown in GOTS certified farms in Gujarat and Telangana.

India is the largest grower of organic cotton. Manufacturing in India also gives us access to biodegradable elastic trims (made from natural rubber and cotton) and a beautiful range of plant-based dyes. The rich Indian Madder we use, for example, comes from plants grown in the Himalayas.

Materials

At Q for Quinn, every step of our process is designed to protect people and the planet. We choose only organic, recycled, or biodegradable materials whenever possible - steering clear of “forever chemicals,” toxic dyes, and shortcuts that harm ecosystems.

Organic Cotton

The organic cotton we use is grown and milled close to our knitting and cut-and-sew facilities, keeping our supply chain efficient and transparent. These farms are GOTS-certified, and every step, from field to finished fabric, is monitored to prevent contamination with non-organic fibers or harmful chemicals.

Choosing organic cotton means fewer pesticides and toxins in our soil and waterways, safer working conditions for farmers, and softer, healthier clothing for your skin.

Merino Wool

The wool for our socks comes from mulesing-free, RWS-certified farms in Australia, then milled in Italy before being crafted into socks in Portugal.

Most of our wool socks are made with a soft, breathable blend of merino wool and organic cotton for comfort and durability.

Biodegradable Trims

We’re committed to making every part of our garments as earth-friendly as possible. As biodegradable trims become available, we’re transitioning to use them across our collections.

We’ve already introduced a natural rubber–cotton elastic in our newer underwear styles and plan to roll it out across all undergarments by 2027. In 2025, we also began using 100% organic cotton biodegradable thread in our undergarments; another step toward fully biodegradable finishes.

You can find more information about our journey to create biodegradable garments here.

Low Impact & Natural Dyes

We’re thoughtful about every color we create. Wherever possible, we use low-impact, eco-friendly dyes that are free from azo compounds and other harmful chemicals.

Many of our collections are also offered in natural plant dyes, which use pigments derived from plants instead of synthetic colorants.

For the most sensitive skin (and the lightest footprint), we also offer undyed organic cotton products, leaving the cotton in its pure, natural state. Each approach helps reduce water pollution, protect workers and ecosystems, and keep what touches your skin as clean as possible.

Our Motivation

What if our business could be a vehicle for good?

Could we create everyday basics that are better for the planet, the people who make them, and our customers, while also feeding children in need?

Our customers have shown us the answer is yes. Since 2019, we’ve donated close to 450,000 school meals to children in need.
